Make sure that all your preparation is done prior to cooking. You’ll be glad you have your prep work done when it’s time to cook. When you have a timeline for your meal to be ready, things can get a bit stressful once you start cooking. Prep work helps take the stress out of meal planning and preparing.

Add oil to the side of the pan when you are cooking with it. The oil will then already be heated when it comes to the center of the pan. Your food will taste better, and you will not have a lull in the cooking process waiting for the oil to heat up.

If you need to slice meat into thin strips, then partially freeze it beforehand. The thinly sliced meat is great in many dishes including many Chinese and Thai meals. When the meat is partially frozen, the cuts will be much cleaner as the fibers in the meat are less likely to stretch. After you have sliced the meat, allow it to thaw out before cooking. This keeps the meat cooking evenly.

When trying out a new marinade or seasoning, test it on a small piece of meat before you cook the entire meal. Meats such as meatballs, hamburgers, and meatloaf need to be seasoned carefully. Never cook your whole meal without testing the seasoning. Instead, make a small piece in the shape of a patty and initially cook that first. Taste the cooked patty, and cook the remainder of the meat if the seasoning is just right, or make any necessary adjustments to the seasonings.

For crispier French fries, put raw potatoes into cold water and let them sit there for about half an hour before frying. By leaving the potatoes to soak up cold water, the fibers are reinforced. This makes it so when you fry them, they’ll withstand the heat better and won’t break down completely.

These seasonings can also add unexpected flavor to other foods. You can use it when you roast pumpkin or sunflower seeds or in any number of egg dishes. You will have everyone asking what the secret spice is!

If your recipe calls for a liquid, try using something other than water or milk. This will add a spark to that tired old dish. Use chicken broth, beef, or juice in places where you would normally use water. Buttermilk, yogurt and sour cream can be great substitutes for milk. A good method for increasing your nutritional intake is by increasing the number of liquids you drink throughout the day.

Don’t take the bone out of a roast if you need to cook it quickly. The bone transfers the heat from your oven to the center of the roast, helping it cook far more quickly. When the roast is done, slice it around the bone.

If you find yourself overwhelmed with preparing dinner for your family, do some of the preparations the night before. You can dice, slice and otherwise prepare vegetables in advance. Stir up some sauce prior to your bedtime for a stress-free pasta dish the next evening. You’ll be less stressed when cooking the following day.

Many popular veggies and herbs have a strong residual odor that can remain on cutting boards well after use. Mark your chopping board using indelible ink in order to keep track of which side you used.

Homemade stock can add flavor to many dishes. You can cook it in large batches, pour the extra batches into plastic freezer bags, and then simply store them in the freezer. This allows you to have savory homemade stock available that you can use for various dishes, like soup. By making your own stock, you can be sure that it is not full of preservatives.

Leave your meal to sit for a short while before serving. Lots of people don’t take advantage of this important step for food. It can be tempting to serve a meal straight off the grill. Though if you do this, your food will not be as enjoyable. It’s also important that the food simply cools down and rests for awhile for flavor’s sake. Give it a few minutes, and it should be ready to go.
