Questions

Introduction

Do you crave homemade hamburger buns but don't want to spend hours kneading and baking them? Me too. That's why I came up with this recipe. It's quick and easy, and it yields a delicious bun with just the right amount of chewiness and softness (no one wants dry or soggy buns).

After testing out several recipes, I landed on this one as my benchmark:

Q: Hi, I'm glad you posted this recipe. I'd like to use my bread machine for kneading the dough. Can I just add all the ingredients to the pan in the order listed and set it on the dough setting?

To answer your question, yes! You can use your bread machine's dough setting to knead the dough. Please put all of the ingredients into the pan according to this recipe, set your bread machine on the dough, and go about your day while it does its thing. If you don't have a bread machine, I recommend using a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment instead. It'll take longer than if you had a real kneading arm like in the picture above, but it will still work fine!

A: Yes, you should be able to do this. Just check your manufacturer's instructions.

Do you need to adjust your baking time, temperature, pan size and pan type?

In most cases, yes. If you're baking a cake from scratch, for example, it's likely that the recipe will call for an oven temperature of 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and a baking time of 30 minutes. But if your oven runs hot or cold compared to what's called for in the recipe which is often true with older ovens you'll need to make adjustments based on how much your oven heats when set at "350." The same goes for other factors: if you use a different type of pan than what the recipe calls for (different materials conduct heat differently) or if you're using a convection setting instead of conventional heating modes (convection modes usually bake at lower temperatures).

The good news is that most recipes are pretty forgiving regarding these variables. If something comes out too browned or underdone by default settings on your equipment, then cut back on baking time/temperature next time!

Q: How long is this dough good for?

A: The dough is best if made within 3 days of serving it at room temperature. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or frozen for up to 2 months.

A: Here's what I do. After forming the buns, I put them on a greased cookie sheet and in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Then, I take them off the cookie sheet and put them into a freezer bag. They keep for several months in there. Pull out as many as you need each time you need fresh hamburger buns!

If you're thinking about freezing them, I recommend putting them on a greased cookie sheet in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Then, I take them off the cookie sheet and put them into a freezer bag. They keep for several months in there. Pull out as many as you need each time you need fresh hamburger buns!

To thaw, just set the bag on your counter for about an hour before using it or heat it in the microwave for 20 seconds to thaw faster (but watch carefully).
